25 Year of Solidarity and Partnership with Ministries of Health around the World—Thank you Steve!
Friends, family, colleagues and well-wishers boarded Virginia V Steamship to salute and recognize the semi-retirement of Health Alliance International’s founder and Executive Director, Dr. Steve Gloyd. Guests cruised along Lake Washington to celebrate Steve’s contributions not only to HAI, but also to University of Washington’s Department of Global Health. Aaron Katz, a long standing HAI board member emceed the program and HAI’s new Executive Director James Pfeiffer shared exciting news about the future of HAI as “Steve’s new boss.” While Aaron and James wore Mozambican shirts, the absence of multiple pairs of Steve Gloyd’s signature Birkenstocks kept James from completing the HAI leadership ‘look’!
The guest of honor, Steve Gloyd, reflected on 25 years of HAI and shared a passionate and authentic story about the early days. Simply put, in Steve’s words- solidarity, celebration through music, learning and family were woven throughout HAI community from its inception to present day.
Jo Anne Myers-Ciecko presented a memory book filled with special notes, poems and thanks from friends and colleagues. HAI staff from Mozambique, Côte d’Ivoire and future partners from Sudan attended the celebration as well as Nancy Anderson, one of the first HAI staff.
This is not a farewell as Steve will continue on as HAI’s Senior Advisor.
Health Alliance International is committed to promoting policies and supporting programs that strengthen government primary health care and foster social, economic and health equity for all.
CONGRATULATIONS Steve and THANK YOU for your vision, leadership and service.
