USAID, Timorese Ministry of Health and HAI Working Together on Maternal and Newborn Child Health
Our staff from Timor-Leste offered lessons learned at a USAID Technical Meeting on Scaling-Up Family Planning and Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Best Practices in Asia and Middle East (AME) Regions.
High-level public health stakeholders from across Asia and the Middle East, and USAID gathered in Bangkok for the meeting this past March.
The meeting brought together representatives from USAID, the Timor-Leste Ministry of Health, and other international organizations working in family planning, maternal, newborn and child health in Timor-Leste, such as TAIS (Timor-Leste Asisténsia Integradu Saúde), and Marie Stopes International. The represenatiives and our staff facilitated the formation of a Country Team Mobilization Task Force.

The Timor-Leste Country Team Task Force shared best practices of current interventions with the wider meeting attendees as well as developed plans for new interventions with a focus on family planning. The Task Force has continued to meet since returning from the Bangkok and recently presented their implementation plan for new family planning interventions to the Minister of Health.
This meeting marked another step forward in the collaboration between NGOs, bilateral organizations and the Ministry of Health to strengthen the Timorese health system.
