Western Regional International Health Conference 2010: War and Global Health
On April 23-25, 2010, the University of Washington hosted the 8th Annual Western Regional International Health Conference with a theme of War and Global Health: Transforming our Professions, Changing our World.
The purpose of the conference was to highlight the impacts of armed conflict on health, and further dialogue on the roles that public health and medical professionals can play in preventing and mitigating the harmful effects of war. The conference is co-hosted by Physicians for Social Responsibility and a number of other regional universities and organizations, including Health Alliance International.

Speakers included:
- Chris Hedges (author of War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning) as the keynote speaker on Friday 4/23 at 7pm
- Neil Arya, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at McMaster University and Adjunct Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Western Ontario
- Paula Gutlove, DMD, Deputy Director of the Institute for Resource and Security Studies and director of IRSS's International Conflict Management Program
- Barry Levy, MD, MPH
- Alfred McCoy, PhD, J.R.W. Smail Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
- Vic Sidel, MD, Distinguished University Professor of Social Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine
- Raana Zahid, MD, Behbud Association of Pakistan and World Population Foundation (WPF)
