Giving via a Donor-Advised Fund

Donor-advised funds (DAF) are becoming a popular donation method that allows individual donors to establish a fund at a public charity from which they can recommend grants to charitable organizations, like Health Alliance International, over time.

Many financial institutions and brokerage firms offer DAF services, and Health Alliance International is eligible to receive DAF grants. Just like any donation, you can choose for your DAF grant to be made in your name or anonymously.

Are you planning to recommend a gift or grant from a donor-advised fund or other charitable foundation?  Let us know! We’ll be happy to answer any questions or provide any information you may need.

Employer Matching

Many employers offer donation matching schemes that help multiply your gift.  Guidelines and amounts vary with each company, so always check with your human resources department to learn more about your workplace giving benefits and to see if you can multiply your contribution.

Health Alliance International is a registered, eligible charity with both Benevity and YourCause.

Does your company offer Learning Lunches, Nonprofit Expos, or other ways for employees to learn about ways they can engage in workplace giving?

How does the CARES Act impact my 2020 giving?

The save-the-economy CARES Act passed by Congress and signed into law on March 27, 2020 incentivizes making cash and certain food inventory charitable contributions during 2020.

Two major highlights that may affect your donation to HAI:

  • Up to $300 Cash Contributions Treated as Above-the-Line Deduction – Individuals who do not itemize their deductions will be able to take a direct deduction up to $300 ($600 for Married Filing Jointly) for qualified contributions as an offset to taxable income.
  • Adjusted Limitations on Charitable Contributions – Individuals who itemize their deductions will not have an adjusted gross income (AGI) limitation for qualified contributions during 2020. The deduction is capped at the individual’s charitable base, and the excess contributions may be carried forward to up to five years.

**Please note that cash contributions made to donor-advised funds will not be eligible for the above provisions.

Washington State Combined Fund Drive

Health Alliance International is an eligible participant in the Washington State Combined Fund Drive, which offers Washington State employees (including State University employees) to give via payroll deduction.

As a young public health professional, I believe universal access to healthcare is a human right, and HAI is committed to creating a world where this is possible. I continue to support HAI because I believe in their mission, the people that work there, the work they do, and those they serve.”
