Public Sector Mentorship Program Evaluation
HAI conducted an evaluation of the effectiveness of a maternal and child health “train the trainer” mentorship program led by a multi-sector consortium in Mozambique’s Zambezia Province.
In Mozambique’s Zambezia province, HAI teamed up with Mozambique’s Ministry of Health, the national associations for paediatrics (AMOP) and obstetrics & gynaecology (AMOG), and UNICEF to implement and evaluate a maternal and child health provider mentorship program.
Following joint development of the training modules and supervision tools with HAI and UNICEF, AMOG and AMOP identified 45 mentors to receive training and ongoing monthly supervision from the Ministry of Health and both associations. HAI & the Beira Operations Research Center took the lead on overall monitoring & evaluation of the project, including a baseline assessment of core MNCH competencies in antenatal, maternity, post-partum and paediatric outpatient services and bi-annual performance assessments.
Results from the evaluation were presented at the 16th annual Jornadas Conference in Maputo, Mozambique with co-authors from HAI, CIOB, and UNICEF.
